Why you should grow your own vegetables

The Corona Virus (COVID-19) is a pandemic that is ongoing and has currently infected 1,320,000 people around the globe. The virus is usually spread during contact through droplets that are projected into the air when one coughs, sneezes or talks. The pandemic has caused much uproar around the world and many communities are, as a result, engaging in panic buying and hoarding. Since the virus is spread by contact, governments around the world are using isolation and quarantining sick people as the solution. Businesses and stores are either shut down entirely or only stay open for a certain time. As a result, you should consider to grow your own vegetables since there is a likely possibility that there might be a shortage of your desired vegetables or a shortage of food in stores near you. Due to many people stocking up on food, food shortage is a likely possibility in the near future.
The reason why self sufficient livingis a good idea during these trying times is due to many different reasons. With social distancing imposed by the government, people take fewer trips to the supermarket and, as a result, end up buying more than they need due to panic. Due to labor shortage along with COVID-19 prevention measures such as self-isolation, countrywide lockdowns and travel restrictions are serious restraints to the food supply chain in many countries. The shortage of workers along with the surge in demand for food supplies has created a situation where we might have a shortage of food.
So why not during the coronavirus pandemic grow your own food at home? It is obvious that you will not be able to have access to as wide of a variety of a choice but even having some basic vegetables with a high nutritional value can save you during harsh times. Since many people have free time on their hands while practicing social distancing, gardening can also become a hobby. Having a small garden in your backyard will not take many supplies, just some extra care and maintenance. You can also have your children participate and reap the benefits.
